Do Great Artists Actually Steal? WCRS London Lifts "Homeless Animals" Campaign.
Both Adfreak and Campaign Magazine recently featured a campaign by WCRS, London titled, "Born Free."
It's a clever campaign depicting wild animals in urban settings. The problem is that it was done before and better, over a year ago.The billboard campaign titled, "Homeless Animals" was produced by Reason Partners and featured in Advertising Age, Archive Magazine and many other publications, blogs and award shows, including Communication Arts. And although it's a nice attempt, but adding the cliched cardboard signs doesn't make the WCRS ads any more original.Given the amount of exposure the original "Homeless Animals" campaign garnered, this replication is beyond coincidence, In this case, I disagree with Picasso's quote, "Good artists copy, great artists steal." There's nothing great, or flattering about this.
